Puketāpapa Cycling Haven Project

Auckland Transport – April 2022 to present

The primary objectives of this project are to reduce barriers to children riding to school in Puketāpapa Mt Roskill. Outcomes include a reductions of transport emissions and improved air quality outside of the city centre by encouraging a shift to walking and cycling. This project advocates for the creation of more people-friendly streets, as a response to local enthusiasm for people-friendly streets, by undertaking activities in areas where there is strong local board and community support.

Bikes in Schools – School Activation Pilot

Auckland Transport – March 2024 to Present

The primary objective of this project is to encourage and facilitate the use of Bikes in Schools bikes out side of the school grounds. To achieve this, safe cycling routes to and from schools for students and community members will be designed. Four schools are involved so that the model could be replicated and developed in other parts of Auckland. Key outcomes include the facilitation of trained and qualified locals from the Māngere community to act as cycle guides and skills instructors in order to offer guided rides on the routes to familiarise local students and encourage them to use these routes.

Share the Road Campaign

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency – July 2014 to present

The goal of the Share the Road Campaign is good road sharing between drivers of heavy vehicles and people who cycle. Workshops have been delivered to 7,500 drivers, 8,000 cyclists and 11,000 members of public. Share the Road workshops give people on bikes three key insights to stay safe when riding on roads where they may meet heavy vehicles – be seen and predictable; be in control of your bike and surroundings; and choose safe routes. Key messages to drivers are pass and follow cyclists safely; and know that it is safer for them to ride out from the curb.

Speed Management Committee

NZTA Waka Kotahi – December 2022 to present

The purpose of the SMC is to review the draft State Highway Speed Management Plan and provide advice to the Director of the NZ Transport Agency.

Puketāpapa Climate Activator Project

Auckland Council – September 2022 to present

The purpose of this initiative is to catalyse a low carbon lifestyle movement and enable residents of Puketāpapa to reduce their carbon footprint.

Bike Hub Mount Roskill

Auckland Transport – 2016 to present

Bike Hub Mount Roskill is designed to help people get on a bike, offering basic bike repairs, refurbished bike sales, advice, training, and more. It is a not-for-profit community project staffed by professionals and volunteers.

Auckland Churches Climate Preparedness Programme

Auckland Council – March 2024 to present

The purpose of this programme is to enable ARK and partner organisations to respond effectively to incidents through appropriate coordination across functions and organisations – both vertically and horizontally. The primary goal of incident and emergency management in Puketāpapa/Mt Roskill is to protect people and property from all hazards and risks, both natural and human-made. This programme primarily focuses on response to incidents and emergencies through readiness, response, and recovery.

eCargo Bike and Trailer Library Project

Auckland Council – 2022 to present

The purpose of the eCargo Bike and Trailer Library project is to enable people to try out eCargo Bikes and regular eBikes, and bicycle trailers to discover how to do life without having to rely on a car. People can borrow the trailers and eBikes for short periods to help them decide what will work best for them before purchasing one.
